Local singing sensation and heartthrob to thousands of fans across the globe, Storm (19), is again attracting massive international interest with his latest single, Can You Feel It, by making it onto the musicworx charts within the first week of its release (the chart is compiled based on votes from DJs from across the world).
Can You Feel It was not only penned by Storm and Prime Circle’s very own Dale Schnettler, but the track was also remixed by the one and only Stonebridge (Madonna, Missy Elliot) and Damien Hall - testament to the star power of this youngster who was born in Johannesburg during the summer of 1999.
Storm first burst onto the South African music scene at age 16 with his debut single, Keep Calm, which shot to No1. Far from a one-hit-wonder, he repeated the success with Rhythm & You, which not only topped the local charts again, but received radioplay from across the globe, including Australia, Canada, USA, UK, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands, receiving a stellar rating of 10 out of 10.
Last year he even composed/wrote and recorded the new anthem for Rise Against Hunger, catapulting him even further into the international limelight. “I’m incredibly excited about what Can You Feel It is already doing internationally and personally believe this might be my best single to date. As I’m from South Africa, I can’t wait to see how local music fans will react to the song, but hope with all my heart that they’ll love it as much as I do,” says Storm.
He says that the message behind the upbeat, happy song is about “the fact that you’re not alone in this world” and “that you should believe that your dreams are going to come true”.
Commenting on all his success, he states: “This feels like an unreal dream I just don’t want to wake up from.”Storm describes himself as “humble, loving, chilled” and someone who “really comes alive on stage”.
He states that his parents do not know where he got his talents from as neither of them are musically inclined, and his sister is not either. “But they tell me that from the time I could walk and speak, I would dance and memorise the words to my favourite songs as they were playing over the radio.
“I’m incredibly fortunate to have the most supportive parents. They allowed me to follow my dreams. I even left my main stream school at 15 to attend a music college, with the family backing me all the way. Now that I’ve graduated, I’m thrilled to be able to focus on my music and career full time. May I just say to everyone that have supported me so far that I have no words to express my gratitude,” he concludes.

The world waited with baited breath for the brand new Samsung Galaxy S9 to be released and it came along and quite literally took my breath away!
The buzzword in the lead up to the release was 'camera reimagined' and that is exactly what is going on with the Samsung Galaxy S9.
'Redesigned with a new dual aperture lens that powers an innovative low light camera, Super Slow-mo video capabilities and personalized AR Emoji, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ ensure you never miss a moment and make your everyday epic.'
You had me at 'everyday epic! '
I pride myself with posting brilliant pictures for social media and online too and I will always maintain that there is no reason to post a bad picture. With the Samsung Galaxy S9, everyone can be a pro and post beautiful, clear, well composed images and videos of their favourite personal and business moments. The lowlight feature is especially handy in my game as I am always wanting to capture the best shots at concerts, shows and the like.
The Super Slow-mo is a popular feature for me and my 9 year old and we have had heaps of fun making videos of flips into the pool and crazy moments with our Scotty Dog, Dougal.
As an actress, I always wondered what I would look like in a cartoon world...enter the AR Emoji!
I think I look pretty darn cute as an augmented reality girl :)
All my family and friends want to have a go and make their own cartoon lookalike when I pop round for a visit.
I must be honest, as impressed as I am with the camera...the sound on this device has blown my mind and I cannot get over the quality of sound on my favourite music and films. As a radio Dj and someone who can't live without music on a day to day basis, the stereo speakers tuned by AKG are a big drawcard for me. The Dolby Atmos functionality offers clear, crisp sound with a real 3D feel and I love that!
As an IOS user, I was worried about the space offered on the new S9, but fear not, as it has expandable memory on offer with a mini SD card slot which can take up to 400GB of extra space.
This is a very good thing, as you will be taking so many pics and videos of such good quality, you will want to keep them forever.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is available for the cash price of-
* Cell C ~ R16,499 - R18,999
* MTN ~ R17,279 - R20,389
* Dion Wired, Technomobi ~ R15,499 - R17,999
Contract prices vary from provider to provider depending on package deals, from R649 - R2599.

Popular South African award-winning actress, choreographer, TV host and the first South African to release a fitness DVD, Khabonina Qubeka has always had a passion for fitness. She is a firm believer that a healthy lifestyle is an important one and spreads the positive message fitness has on one’s body and mind. Now, she is taking her passion for yoga to the next level as she heads out on an international tour where she and YogaRaj are conducting the first ever #Mandela100Yogathon in Hong Kong, with the assistance of Brand South Africa and the South African consulate in Hong Kong.
The aim of the tour is to spread the message of health and fitness and its importance – especially in children. The star continues her mission to educate the country about the powerful attributes yoga has on a person and Khabonina will showcase how yoga specifically has changed her life.
“Travelling the world gives you a glimpse into how other people live. I’ve seen the effects yoga has had for countless people in many countries around the world,” Khabonina says. “Yoga has especially become popular in African countries and I want to make a deeper impact with my travels by showcasing the ability to self-heal through the medium and its importance. I’m excited to teach the continent how to use yoga to their benefit.”
Although Khabonina’s main focus is making an impact around Africa, the first leg of her journey will see her visit Hong Kong after she was extended a special invitation by Guinness World Record holder YogaRaj to participate in the Afro Asia Yogathon. Khabonina will visit the Asian country from 27 March to 4 April where she will spearhead the first ever #Yogathon100ForMadiba – an event in support of the Nelson Mandela Centenary. The Nelson Mandela Centenary’s programme represents the focal point of the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s strategy to elevate the legacy and memory of Nelson Mandela and everything he stood for.
“Yoga Raj must have obviously seen my yoga work, was impressed and decided it would be great to join heads and run this first ever Yogathon for Madiba in Hong Kong,” Khabonina explains. “I’m so honoured to be participating in this exciting project.”
After her visit to Hong Kong, Khabonina will be jetting off to Botswana between 26 and 29 April where she will run a fun Health Fitness Africa session for the communities. The star will introduce her KhaboYoga by running a Health Fitness Africa session which will incorporate traditional and modern dancing styles alongside various fitness exercises and yoga. The workshops will include various healthy food talks, how to curb diabetes and obesity and the power simple yoga workouts have on one’s body.
The third stop on Khabonina Qubeka’s ‘KhaboYoga’ tour will be in Zanzibar, Tanzania between 21 and 28 June 2018. Khabonina will also be hosting a Yoga Fun retreat where families and couples can join her at a private resort and learn more about this exciting medium.
Naturally, Khabonina will also be spreading her message in and around South Africa. The star is planning some exciting events around the week of the 18th to the 26th of July 2018 and is excited to share her knowledge at home as well. She will be visiting a variety of schools where she will be speaking to children about the importance of fitness and how living a healthy, active lifestyle now will have a massive impact on their bodies in the future.
“I feel the need to share this yoga experience with the community - especially the children,” Khabonina continues. “Yoga has a deep history in North Africa. It’s a place Kemetic Yoga was born. I want to show children that the idea of yoga isn’t a foreign one and how beneficial yoga is for African children. The health benefits are imperative and it is a message I feel strongly about.”
KhaboYoga 2018 Tour Dates:
March 27 - 4 Hong Kong
April 26 - 29 Botswana
June 21 - 28 Zanzibar, Tanzania

The Sandton SPCA recently appealed in the media for community assistance to raise funds for a vehicle to assist with emergency calls and being able to get into the communities it serves. Within days, Cell C, thanks to its on-going Acts of Kindness campaign, together with Abela Business Leasing and Melrose Nissan had come to the SPCA’s assistance.
With access to only three vehicles and a vast area to cover (with some inaccessible roads), the organisation urgently required a one-ton bakkie. The need became even more urgent after the SPCA received a call about a dog being stoned by children but were too late to get to the scene because of a lack of transport.
Through a partnership with Abela Business Leasing and Melrose Nissan, Cell C will share the monthly rental of a NP200 Nissan. The monthly rental includes the annual cost of licensing and a full maintenance and tyre replacement plan up to 120 000 kilometres, for three years.
Says Jaco Pieterse, General Manager of the Sandton SPCA: “This will make a huge difference in the lives of the many animals and the members of the informal communities that we serve. As well as assisting animals we also need to educate the public about animal welfare. If the youth is educated, they end up building a better future for animals in the country. We thank Cell C, Abela Business Leasing and Melrose Nissan for their kindness and care.”
Says Suzette van der Merwe, Managing Executive Corporate Social Investment at Cell C: “We are confident that this donation will help the Sandton SPCA achieve their stated objectives of public awareness about animal welfare and to be able to tend to animals in areas where their help is most needed. We could not have done this without our partners Melrose Nissan and Abela Business Leasing.”
“We are happy to be a partner to such a worthy cause; prevention of cruelty to animals and educating the communities about animal care thus promoting kindness, respect and responsibility towards all animals,” says Melrose Nissan’s Fleet Sales Manager, Darryl Brook.
Ross Richards, Director for Abela Business Leasing says: "The Sandton SPCA fulfils a critical function of preventing cruelty and improper treatment of defenceless animals and they are able to provide animals in distress with a place of safety and a place where they are able to get the care they so require. We are extremely proud that together with Melrose Nissan and Cell C, through their Act of Kindness programme, we are able to assist them in this worthwhile role by making this vehicle available to them at no charge. We are grateful that we have been afforded this opportunity to support them in their mission.”

'Boom Boom' - The first single from newcomer Gerry Liberty, dropped out of nowhere just like Gerry dropped out of University. Here's hoping his music career won't meet the same fate as his spate of dead-end jobs. Lucky for us his passion is for pop song-writing and not Pizza-delivery. The years in between, playing weddings and bar-mitzvahs seems to have paid off. 'Boom Boom' is a certified party starter. He might look like a beach-bum, but he sounds like Leadbelly, Pharrell and Brad Pitt had a three way and miraculously produced an only-child. For someone who's got nothing to say he sure makes one want to listen.
Many have been partying to the song Boom Boom during the summer holidays, but not everyone realised that the hit track is actually the very first single released by South Africa’s very own Gerry Liberty, which from the word go rocked the charts with its catchy lyrics and can’t-get-this-song-out-of-my-head production.
“People say life is short, but man, can it feel long when you’re not where you’re supposed to be,” states Cape Town’s Gerry Liberty, who recently turned 30. He explains: “For years I tried to study towards several different degrees, followed by a variety of odd jobs, but all I wanted to do was to play my guitar, sing and perform for a crowd - no matter how small.”
He therefore states that no one can call him an overnight success as “oh boy, I’ve paid my dues!”. For years now, Gerry followed his passion, performing at a variety of bars, venues, celebrations and parties - anywhere where someone would give him the opportunity to showcase his skills. And as he certainly has the talent to match his passion, he managed to make music his full time career three years ago by performing an average of 15 gigs per month. During 2016, he was booked for a staggering 218 gigs as he soon built up a solid fan base amongst Capetonians.
Even though the South African music industry can be very “clicky” as many new artists know, Gerry’s talent however caught the eye of a variety of successul recording artists - in particular Fred den Hartog of Die Heuwels Fantasies fame. Together they worked on Boom Boom, originally composed by Gerry in 2016, and with the odd change here and there, recorded the hit that has become a firm party favourite since its debut in November of 2017.
Boom Boom was immediately picked up by several radio stations, ranging from 5FM to Jacaranda 94.2, where the song not only debuted at #19 on the latter station’s top 20 charts, but made a massive leap to #2. Apple Music featured the song on its “Best of the Week” picks and Boom Boom also immediately started streaming on Joox South Africa. The song is available for download on iTunes, Google Play and Spotify, to name but a few.
Chatting about Boom Boom, the ridiculously good-looking Gerry says that the song is “typically about what guys chat about after they got ‘lucky’ with some girl the night before. So yes, it is a bit of a badass, naughty brat tune. But hey, it only reflects the truth”.
Apart from Boom Boom, Gerry has already recorded several additional songs, all with a very strong (modern) pop flavour - a style of music that he loves. Astoundingly however, Gerry’s musical influences as a child ranged from Michael Jackson to Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Chicago, Blues to singer/songwriters like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Elton John, and then again a massive contrast to techno, house and deep house.
Raised in the Cape Town suburb of Durbanville, Gerry’s dad is now a beekeeper and his mom a teacher. He has an older brother (2 years his senior) and Gerry says that they could not possibly be more different, with his sibling working as an accountant, specialising as a tax consultant. Fortunately for Gerry, his parents are “relatively supportive” of his own choice of career as they soon realised that there was no point in fighting Gerry on following his dreams to make it big as a successful singer/musician.
Gerry describes himself as “easy-going”, “someone who takes things as they come and doesn’t stress easily”, “a person that always does what keeps him happy” and then “someone who can be difficult when it is needed”.
From the word go, Gerry made a list of the top people in the industry he wanted to work with. “Ian Bredenkamp featured on this list as he is just the best in the business of getting you onto radio and massive exposure. Fortunately Ian took my call, liked what he heard - and achieved exactly what I was dreaming about. As they say, the rest is history, but oh man - the future is looking good!”
Thanks to the massive success of Boom Boom, the music video for the hit song was also just released. CHECK IT OUT
And to answer the question on everyone’s lips, yes, Gerry is single. “I’m still pretty young, so just dating for now. It’s crucial at this stage that music is my number one love.”
In conclusion, Gerry states: “Just for the record, I don't want to be famous; I want to be successful. I want to be taken seriously as a musician for years to come. The added benefits that come with being in the public eye are just an added bonus, but definitely not what I’m after. I just want to expose my music to as many people as I possibly can. And hopefully they will really like what they hear.”
