The Hussar Grill in Morningside has only been open since the end of last year but the history of the restaurant itself and more importantly the brand, spans more than 50 years.
The very first grill opened its doors in Cape Town in 1964 with not much changing since then as they still offer the best cuts of meat, incredible service and an all round dining experience second to none. With branches all over Cape Town and now in Pretoria and Johannesburg, The Hussar Grill is a must visit for all.
The passion for their customers and the food is tangible and the staff along with the management make you feel as though you are a guest in their own homes as they make you comfortable, share knowledge and help you decide on theist options for your night out.
As a parent of a small child, a night out should always be worthwhile and special as it is not very often that one gets to spend some time with one's better half. A night out for two at The Hussar Grill is the perfect treat, whether it is just for fun, a celebration or a get together with friends.
The layout of the restaurant is so clever in that it feels much smaller and more intimate than it is, with partitions cleverly placed to make it a more pleasurable experience. The waitrons will even come to your table and show you the cuts of meat on offer whilst also explaining what each one has to offer in terms of taste and tenderness.
For starters we selected the Steak Tartare and the Mussel Pot both of which did not disappoint...I am still craving the creamy sauce the mussels came in.
The main event was so difficult to decide on as there is so much choice of meat, cut and taste to suit every palate. In the end, we went for the Lamb Shank and the Chateaubriand which is a showstopper on its own! The lamb meat simply fell off the bone and was so tasty, all conversation ceased. The Chateaubriand is something to behold and impressive to boot with the flames attracting gasps of joy from the tables nearby. The flavour of the meat post flambé and the béarnaise sauce is a match made in heaven.
To end off one of the most tasty meals we have had in a long time, there was not too much space left, so we decided on a baked cheesecake. Only two words can describe this... Yum Yum!
The Hussar Grill is definitely on our list of favourite restaurants to visit in Johannesburg and we will be back before too long to sample the fine faire and all round experience.
